MINDFULNESS

The practice of coming back to your breath

You don't need a silent retreat to practice mindfulness — just one honest breath, repeated as often as you remember to take it.

You will forget, and that’s the practice

Every mindfulness teacher will tell you the same secret: you are going to forget to be present, probably within the next few minutes. The goal was never to hold unbroken attention forever. It was always to notice you’ve drifted, and gently come back. That return, repeated hundreds of times, is the actual practice — not the moments of stillness themselves.

This reframing matters because most people quit mindfulness thinking they’re bad at it, when really they’ve just misunderstood the assignment. Wandering attention isn’t failure. It’s the raw material the practice works with.

One breath is enough

If a whole meditation session feels unreachable today, let one conscious breath count. Notice the air arrive, notice it leave. That’s a complete rep, not a consolation prize.
